The intensive inspections conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) at crossing points at the Mexico-US border have eased in some regions but continue affecting others. Nuevo Leon and Coahuila report that inspections at the Port of Colombia and Eagle Pass have eased. But Chihuahua continues to report disruptions and economic impact as the inspections continue.

The Government of Texas and the DPS strengthened inspections at border crossing citing concerns about the influx of immigrants crossing by land. The inspections have led to numerous delays, which have caused millions of dollars in economic damage across many industries.

Coahuila: Eagle Pass

According to the Government of Coahuila, due to a decrease in migrant flow and the efforts of Governor Miguel Riquelme and Texas authorities, the International Bridge I between Piedras Negras and Eagle Pass has normalized operation starting today at 7:00 am. The bridge will continue operating as per the established schedule. The trade across the bridge is also expected to return to normal this week.

Nuevo Leon: Port of Colombia

The Government of Nuevo Leon confirmed that as of Friday, Oct. 13, at 10:00 pm, the Texas government suspended the thorough inspections at the Port of Colombia, which had been implemented since 8:00 am on Thursday.

The press release also mentions that the US Customs Border Patrol (CBP) and National Customs Agency (ANAM) collaborated to expedite crossings, providing service from 6:00 am on Saturday and Sunday instead of the usual opening time at 8:00 am.

Marco González, Honorary Director, Corporation for the Development of the Border Zone of Nuevo Leon (CODEFRONT), adds that next Wednesday, representatives from the governments of Nuevo Leon and Texas will meet in Laredo, Texas.

Chihuahua: Ongoing Impact

Chihuahua reports that intensive inspections continue. According to the Trust for Border Bridges of Chihuahua (FPFCH), the cumulative economic damage caused by the reduction in the passage of cargo vehicles through the border bridges reached US$2.1 billion between Sept. 18 and Oct.14.
