The presidential candidates have outlined their proposals for PEMEX and the energy industry in Mexico. Although they all concur on wanting to advance the energy transition, they disagree on how to achieve this.

Presidential Candidates Outline Their PEMEX Plans

Xóchitl Gálvez, Claudia Sheinbaum, and Jorge Álvarez Máynez, presidential candidates of Mexico, have presented their initial proposals for PEMEX. They all advocate for a greener vision for PEMEX's operations. However, none of them have disclosed the funding sources for these new projects or offered concrete plans to enhance the financial stability of the NOC.

Sheinbaum vowed to keep on boosting the state energy sector while accelerating the energy transition. Moreover, Gálvez has openly spoken out about transforming PEMEX into EMEX (Mexican Energies) to reduce pollutant emissions by stopping methane burning and producing clean fuels and electricity.

Dos Bocas Delayed Once More

PEMEX  has made another revision to the timeline for the commencement of commercial production and has postponed it until April, with the goal of achieving full fuel output by September.

PEMEX’s Sustainability Plan Approved

The PEMEX Board of Directors approved its Sustainability Plan, which sets both medium-term goals for 2030 and long-term goals for 2050, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to cleaner energies.

Gas Station Permits Still Pending in Nuevo Leon

Permits issued by CRE for new gas stations in Nuevo Leon saw a significant decline in 2023, indicating challenges in the region's fuel retail sector, according to the Nuevo Leon Energy Cluster. In 2023, only 20 authorizations were granted, marking a 43% decrease compared to the previous year, when 35 permits were issued.
