Airport data errors. After the Superior Audit of the Federation (ASF) released inaccurate data related to the cost of the Texcoco (NAIM) airport, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that he would be sending a letter to Dulce Maria Sauri, president of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies, calling for an investigation into the report that was made public and then retracted after AMLO highlighted the irregularities in the report. “I believe that it is a political attitude, that they sought to harm us to please our opponents,” AMLO said. The president also said that with the money saved from NAIM’s cancelation, there would be more funds to finance the Mayan Train, one of the administration’s flagship infrastructure projects.

No political persecution. AMLO said that the government was not politically persecuting Tamaulipas Gov. Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca. He also stated that the Chamber of Deputies would decide whether to proceed with a criminal complaint against the governor. “We do not have a double standard, and we are not hypocrites. The true doctrine and, perhaps, the only one of our opponents, especially of the conservatives, is hypocritical; they say one thing and do another.”

Candidate protection. After the assassination of a mayoral candidate in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, AMLO said the government was working for the protection of all candidates. “We are acting to protect all candidates and to ensure that they are not candidates for organized crime or white-collar crime.”

Applauds Biden’s plan. AMLO highlighted President Joe Biden’s plan for the US to become self-sufficient in energy matters. “Instead of closing, it is proposing that there be agreements, I imagine with us and other countries, to guarantee its supply. It is important that they are thinking about self-sufficiency. We have to go there (become self-sufficient in energy).”
