Hard work-driven cultures are gradually being replaced with an environment that centers on employee well-being. Employment is no longer just a question of value and compensation but one of providing spaces for employees to be healthy, happy and to grow professionally.

Richard Branson, Founder, Virgin Group, told LinkedIn that, “clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of your clients.” The platform specifies the need for accelerating people’s experience as it is the era of human potential.

To ensure the success of an organization, it is crucial to implement employee listening strategies, allowing workers to feel more connected with the company, thus motivating them to bring forth their best work. In this process, it is important to include employees during decision-making processes and incorporate their ideas. Overall, companies need to promote a company culture and behaviors that ensure that the employees are being heard and not simply turned away, highlight Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton, Co-Founders, The Culture Works.

Victor Velázquez, Vice President of People and Organization Development, Clip, emphasized during Mexico Talent Forum 2022 the importance of communication and ensuring there are always channels for dialogue open where employees can express ideas and opinions. “We have a forum for those who like to speak openly. We have another option for those who prefer to express themselves through writing or anonymously through surveys … It is important to listen to collaborators, but it is more important to generate different conversational spaces.”

Attentive listening is a major part of the strategy and so is following through with suggestions. Should a company refrain from implementing this kind of strategy, it can find it difficult to retain its talent as the employees may feel alienated and suffer from decreased job satisfaction, as well as decreased morale.
