Congressman Javier Ramos Franco, coordinator of the Green Alliance, presented before the Chamber of Deputies an initiative to modernize public security strategies in Mexico City. The initiative seeks to promote the adoption of advanced technologies such as drones, facial recognition cameras, and artificial intelligence (AI) by public security institutions to strengthen the prevention and prosecution of illegal activities. The initiative also incorporates clear objectives aimed at safeguarding citizens' right to privacy, protection, and security.

The initiative contemplates the implementation of an intelligent surveillance system, which would consist of the strategic installation of facial recognition cameras in areas with a high incidence of crime, as well as in spaces of public interest such as parks, squares, and public transportation stations. In addition, it also contemplates drones equipped with high-resolution cameras and tracking technology to monitor areas that are difficult to access or that require a rapid response to emergency situations.

Javier Ramos Franco, who is also a member of Mexico City's Commission for the Administration and Prosecution of Justice, explained that the proposal seeks to integrate AI systems to analyze large volumes of data in real time to identify crime patterns, foresee possible actions, and high-risk areas. Likewise, clear and transparent protocols would be established for the storage, access, and use of the information collected through these technologies to guarantee the fundamental rights of citizens at all times.

Although the deputy did not clarify the methods to realize these objectives, he emphasized the need to train specialized personnel in the management and operation of these technologies and the proper interpretation of the data obtained for informed, effective, and timely decision making. In addition, he proposed to conduct public awareness campaigns to inform the public about the proper use of these tools and the benefits they would bring to citizen security.

Finally, the initiative establishes that Citizen Security Institutions should promote the permanent renewal and updating of equipment and technological systems, to guarantee the prevention and prosecution of illegal activities with the purpose of improving the effectiveness of Citizen Security.

"It is our duty to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens, and the use of technology is a powerful tool that will allow us to fulfill this commitment," said Javier Ramos.
