Hainan Airlines Restarts Beijing-Mexico City Route
Hainan Airlines has restarted its direct flights between Beijing and Mexico City following a five-year hiatus, reinstating a crucial route aimed at bolstering tourism and investment ties between China and Mexico. The service, which includes a stop in Tijuana, will operate twice weekly.
This route, suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is now back in operation with flights scheduled every Tuesday and Saturday from Mexico City to Beijing, and return flights on Mondays and Fridays.
The Chinese Ambassador to Mexico, along with Jesús Seade, the Mexican Ambassador to China, and Wei Kaiwen, Deputy Director, Hainan Airlines' Flight Department, were present for the inaugural flight. Representatives from Mexico’s Civil Aviation Authority and AICM emphasized the route's significance in fortifying bilateral relations.
“The resumption of this route is a major boon for tourism,” said a spokesperson from Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism. Despite the absence of direct flights in 2023, Mexico welcomed 161,316 Chinese tourists, marking an 80% increase from 2022. In January 2024, Mexico received 84,600 Chinese tourists, contributing US$105 million in revenue.
Hainan Airlines, acclaimed as China’s sole five-star airline by SKYTRAX, operates over 50 international and regional routes. For the Beijing-Tijuana-Mexico City route, the airline utilizes the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
