Mexico, US Transportation Ministers Discuss Aviation Initiatives

Mexico and US officials met to discuss aviation, cargo, and transportation binational practices. During the meeting, held on Monday in Washington DC, the ministers discussed aviation and transportation issues, such as the plan for Mexico to maintain the Category 1 airspace safety rating and the transfer of cargo operations from Mexico City International Airport (AICM) to Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA).

Last Friday, two Mexican Air Force planes took off from the Santa Lucía military base to repatriate Mexicans stranded by the Israel-Hamas conflict.

On October 15, Mexico safely evacuated 158 citizens from the Israel-Hamas conflict. More followed, prioritizing vulnerable groups. Emergency protocols have been in place since October 7. Additionally, the Mexican government is actively working to establish contact with Hamas and associate organizations in an effort to secure the release of the two Mexican hostages.

SEMAR to Recruit Private Security Personnel for AICM

AICM opened tenders to hire 5,000 private security personnel, raising concerns about airport safety. These tenders are specifically designed to subcontract security and surveillance services for various critical areas of the airport, including access points, parking facilities, baggage inspection zones, X-ray inspection areas and the perimeter areas of Terminals 1 and 2.
