The government of Tamaulipas achieved a major milestone to enhance the state’s air connectivity, announcing the arrival of Monterrey-based airline Aerus to increase flight frequencies in Tamaulipas.

Aerus will begin operations in the state on April 27, 2023, with four frequencies. Minister of Economic Development Ninfa Cantú Deándar highlights that the airline will improve connectivity in Tamaulipas, explains the state government via a press release.

Cantú attributed the airline’s arrival to a result of Governor Américo Villarreal’s efforts to increase Tamaulipas’ flight routes. The minister also visited the airline’s facilities at the Mariano Escobedo International Airport in Monterrey and met Javier Herrera, CEO, Aerus, and his management team to discuss the company’s expansion to Tamaulipas. Cantú highlights the airline’s “commitment and trust” in the state during the visit.

“Aerus is a regional airline based in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, and is part of the corporate Grupo Herrera of San Luis Potosí. Since 2022, at the beginning of the administration of Governor Américo Villarreal, we have been working with them to provide all the facilities for the new routes that will improve air connectivity in the state," explained Cantú.

Aerus will operate its Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft, which has capacity for nine passengers. The airline plans to expand its fleet at the beginning of 2024 to add a Cessna Skycourier aircraft, which is capable of transporting 19 passengers. Early estimates indicate that the expansion could take place in February 2024.

Air connectivity surged as one of the most essential factors for the Tamaulipas government, as the state seeks to strengthen regional growth and development. Cantú highlights that the arrival of the airline seeks to kickstart internal business connectivity, while improving the state’s connection with the US.

Aerus recently announced that it signed a Letter of Intent for 30 commuter Alice planes with all-electric aircraft manufacturer Eviation. The airline seeks to use the planes to travel across Mexico, connecting Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, Coahuila and Veracruz, as reported by MBN.
