In July 2023, Volaris emerged as the clear winner in OAG’s On-Time Performance (OTP) ranking, with an on-time arrival rate of 98.4%. The ranking measures the performance of over 500 carriers across the world.

OAG’s monthly report evaluates the punctuality of airlines and airports worldwide, serving as a key performance indicator for the industry. July, a peak month for airline operations, witnessed Volaris setting a new benchmark for punctuality, leaving its domestic competitors trailing behind. During the month, Aeroméxico achieved an on-time performance of 79.7%, while Viva Aerobus closely followed with 79.6%.

OAG’s report also highlights the performance of other regional airlines. For example, Panama’s Copa Airlines boasted an 89.5% OTP. LATAM Airlines Group, a major player in the region, achieved 88.3% on-time flights.

While North American airlines showcased improvement in July compared to the previous month, they scored 60.7% on average, the lowest among all regions. Alaska Airlines emerged as the most punctual carrier in North America, with an on-time performance of 79.5% and close behind was Delta Air Lines with 77.5%.

Across the EU, the Middle East and Africa, the average punctuality rate stood at 66.6%. However, Eurowings took the lead in the region with a 97.1% OTP, securing the second spot globally.

In the Gulf region. Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways and Emirates recorded OTPs of 86.6%, 82.1% and 74.3% respectively. Saudi Arabian Airlines achieved an 83.4% OTP in July. In the Asia-Pacific region, Aero Dili, a small Timor-Leste-based airline, achieved a perfect 100% OTP. Not far behind was Garuda Indonesia, a larger carrier, operating 94.5% of its flights on time.

In India, AirAsia emerged as the front runner in punctuality, surpassing the regional average with an OTP of 83.7%. Indigo, maintained a strong on-time performance of 81.9%. Air India recorded 71.3% OTP, aligning with the regional average. Finally, Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways secured notable positions in the punctuality race, with OTPs of 82.5% and 79.8% respectively.

OAG´s OTP rankings provide valuable insights into the performance of airlines across the globe. As travelers increasingly prioritize punctuality, airlines that consistently deliver on-time flights gain a competitive edge, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable travel experience for passengers.
