Harvest House to Use AI for Tomato Yield Forecasting
EU-based farmers cooperative Harvest House announced it expanded its partnership with Netherlands-based AgTech company Source.ag to implement an AI-powered harvest forecasting system across its 600ha tomato production area. The transition will allow the cooperative to move from a manual spreadsheet to an automated yield forecasting system.
According to the companies, the technology provides detailed production data over a 60-day window and integrates directly into the cooperative’s CRM systems, enhancing data availability for sales and operational planning. "This expansion underscores our commitment to innovation and sustainability. With Source.ag’s AI, we are investing in accuracy and timeliness in harvest forecasting, empowering us to reduce inefficiencies throughout the fresh produce supply chain,” said Yvonne Geurten, Commercial Director, Harvest House.
By aggregating forecasts by product segment, the AI technology is intended to help Harvest House align its expected supply more closely with retail demand, which can minimize food waste and improve planning. "Forecasting remains one of fresh produce’s greatest challenges and a key driver of waste and financial losses for growers and retailers. As climate change intensifies, extreme weather events are increasingly putting global food security under pressure. Ensuring fresh produce remains available and affordable for consumers is more important than ever, stated Rien Kamman, CEO and Co-founder, Source.ag.
Source.ag’s Harvest Forecast AI is designed for high-tech greenhouse operations and uses real-time crop data, historical growing patterns, and proprietary algorithms to deliver forecasts on volume and harvesting schedules, the company explained.
