Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Navistar and Nissan in the Spotlight

Mercedes-Benz announced it will lay off 3,600 employees amid the restructure of its truck and bus chassis plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The company will outsource the production of front axles and medium transmissions, as well as logistics and maintenance services in the Brazilian city of Sao Bernardo, to confront cost pressures and changes in the automotive industry. Meanwhile, it will focus on its core business, which is the production of chassis and trucks, said Mercedes-Benz in a statement.

Volkswagen Mexico Workers Reject Union Deal Again

Workers at Volkswagen's assembly plant in Puebla rejected the company’s salary increase proposal for the second time this year. The Independent Union of Workers of the Automotive, Similar and Related Industries (SITIAVW) announced that 3,450 workers voted against it while 3,225 were in favor of the proposed 9 percent direct salary increase and 2 percent increase in benefits. Because no majority agreement was reached, the Federal Labor Conciliation and Registration Center (CFCRL) ordered the repetition of the exercise.

Navistar Delivers Batch of Electric Trucks Assembled in Mexico

US truck maker Navistar delivered the first batch of its new battery electric vehicle (BEV), the first to be assembled in Mexico, to Canadian company ENMAX. This fully-electric vehicle was produced in Navistar’s plant in Escobedo, Nuevo Leon, and will be also commercialized in Mexico and Canada.

Nissan Highlights Mexico's International Relevance

Nissan Mexico welcomed Ashwani Gupta, the global COO in an event held at its A1 and A2 assembly plants in Aguascalientes, which aimed to reinforce Mexico’s relevance for the automaker.
