ChatGPT Down for a Second Time Today
ChatGPT is down again following an earlier “major outage” today. The widespread downtime has affected the services of ChatGPT, OpenAI's flagship generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) tool.
The incident started at 2:21 AM (CST) and lasted for several hours. OpenAI confirmed the downtime through its status page, as well as indicated to have started investigating the cause of the problem. Around 6:45 AM (CST), users were able to access the platform again. However, hours later, new errors appeared, affecting some users since 9:33 AM (CST).

OpenAI, through its website, has not disclosed the exact number of affected users, but it has been confirmed that the incidence did not impact everyone equally. The company says it is investigating the issues impacting ChatGPT but has not shared specific details about the causes of the crash.
As reported by The Verge, this is the first major outage to hit ChatGPT since November 2023, when the service was down for around 90 minutes and impacted OpenAI’s API services. The company later revealed that the November outage was related to a DDoS attack.
According to Gizmodo, OpenAI’s outages have become “somewhat common”, with OpenAI’s status page showing more than a dozen outages in the last 90 days, but usually resolved in less than an hour.
