Google showcased its latest technological innovations at the Made by Google Pixel Event. The event introduced a wide range of updates, including the much-anticipated Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel Watch 2 and AI integration features. These innovations are meant to compete with Apple’s recent iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9 launches.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are the newest iterations of its smartphone technology and boast speed, security, advanced Google AI and the most sophisticated Pixel Cameras to date. Notably, the Pixel 8 features a 6.1-inch display while the Pixel 8 Pro retains its 6.8-inch screen. These models both exhibit remarkable brightness, with the Pixel 8 peaking at 2,000 nits and the 8 Pro at 2,400 nits. The camera also includes a Magic Editor feature, which will allow background filling and the repositioning of subjects to improve photos even after they have already been taken. Its Best Take feature will allow users to merge multiple shots to craft the perfect group photo.

Google also upgraded the Pixel Watch 2, featuring enhanced heart rate monitoring, body-response sensors and skin temperature sensors, which were borrowed from the Fitbit line. Altogether, these additions are meant to provide users with a holistic view of their health and even facilitate effective stress management. Running on the Android 14 mobile operating system, it also offers users enhanced customization options, accessibility features and an AI-driven lock screen, which will adapt to users' current situations by emphasizing relevant widgets based on specific circumstances.

Google Assistant also received a significant update with the integration of AI-powered technology into its system, debuting in the Pixel 8 Pro. This enhanced version of the personal assistant expands its capabilities, enabling it to handle a broader range of tasks, from simple requests like weather updates and setting alarms to providing more intelligent responses. According to Google, the integration of AI Bard technology will elevate the user experience by making Google Assistant more intuitive and responsive to users’ demands.

Google also unveiled its first foldable device: the Google Pixel Fold. This innovative device will leverage Google’s expertise in translation for its Dual-Screen Interpreter Mode feature. By opening the device completely flat, users will have the capability of communicating in different languages in a seamless way. This innovative feature will support 45 languages and is expected to enhance global communication by translating audio in real time on either side of the screen.

Pixel 8 is priced at US$699, while the Pixel 8 Pro comes in at US$999. While Google’s smartphones are expected to be available in the US by Oct. 12, the tech company has not yet confirmed a possible launch in Mexico.
