The cybersecurity landscape in Mexico has experienced a notable escalation, with 324 billion malicious events recorded in 2024 and over 35.2 billion attacks during 1Q25. In response, Fortinet emphasizes the relevance of AI as a core resource to strengthen corporate defenses and mitigate emerging risks.

The increasing sophistication of cyberattacks, combined with a global cybersecurity talent shortage — estimated at 4.8 million professionals worldwide, including 1.3 million in Latin America and the Caribbean — has driven the adoption of AI and machine learning-based tools. “AI, particularly generative AI, is currently being used to support traditional teams in network operations centers (NOC) and security operations centers (SOC), enabling faster reactions to network changes and quicker detection of potential threats than human counterparts,” says Jorge Miranda, Country Manager Mexico, Fortinet.

FortiGuard Labs’ Global Threat Landscape Report 2025 indicates that cybercriminals are using AI to refine reconnaissance techniques, making it more difficult to detect malicious activity. This development presents a significant challenge to Mexican companies. The fragmentation of security tools from multiple vendors makes it intrinsically difficult to correlate and contextualize threat intelligence across organizations. This disconnection impairs accurate detection and effective response to advanced cyberattacks, such as ransomware and malware designed to bypass conventional security systems. As a result, organizations often react too late rather than implementing a proactive approach.

In light of these challenges, Fortinet has reinforced its commitment to the Mexican market through investment in technology, specialized solutions, and a robust local presence. The company aims to deploy the necessary infrastructure to ensure comprehensive protection against cyber threats.

“For 25 years, our mission at Fortinet has been to protect people, devices, and data worldwide. Today, we want to reaffirm our commitment to Mexico, provide training, and offer the most advanced cybersecurity technology,” says Miranda.

Fortinet is investing in the development of a team of cybersecurity experts who, in collaboration with a local ecosystem of wholesalers, channels, and integrators, distribute advanced technology and specialized knowledge. This holistic approach aims to provide solid support to businesses.

The company also highlights the importance of integrating cybersecurity as a strategic business component involving all employees. Miranda says that human error is a common entry point for cybercriminals, who are using increasingly sophisticated phishing techniques. Therefore, creating a cybersecurity culture positions employees as the first line of defense, capable of preventing deception and attacks. The combination of advanced technologies such as AI and internal awareness strategies offers a path to strengthen the cybersecurity posture of organizations in Mexico, says Fortinet.
