Google to Acquire Cybersecurity Firm Wiz for US$32 Billion
Google has announced an agreement to acquire cybersecurity firm Wiz for US$32 billion in an all-cash deal, marking the largest acquisition in the company’s history. The transaction, announced Tuesday, will strengthen Google Cloud’s security capabilities amid the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence.
Wiz, founded in 2020 and headquartered in New York, provides cloud security solutions designed to protect data stored in remote data centers. The company collaborates with major cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.
The acquisition follows Google’s previous attempt to purchase Wiz for US$23 billion in 2024, an offer the cybersecurity firm declined in favor of a potential initial public offering. With this deal, Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport said the company expects to accelerate its innovation efforts as part of Google Cloud.
Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud, stated that integrating Wiz’s technology will enhance cloud security and support organizations in managing cybersecurity risks across multiple cloud environments.
The agreement comes amid shifting regulatory policies in the United States, which analysts believe could lead to an increase in technology sector mergers and acquisitions. Wiz was last valued at US$12 billion in a funding round in May 2024.
