CFE gathered legal professionals from across Mexico for its National Lawyer Convention on Aug. 1, marking the country’s Day of the Female and Male Lawyer. Held at the National Museum of Energy and Technology, the event spotlighted the crucial legal work behind the state utility’s operations.

In a message to attendees, CFE Director General Emilia Calleja praised legal teams for defending public assets and national interests in one of Mexico’s most strategic sectors. She highlighted internal strategies under CFE’s anti-corruption program, launched in 2019, and its alignment with President Claudia Sheinbaum’s 10 pillars of good governance.

Legal Director José Manuel Calva urged continued commitment to legal rigor and institutional defense, while officials from the judiciary and federal government explored the legal profession’s evolving role. Talks included the use of artificial intelligence in the justice system and the fight against money laundering.

The event comes amid renewed government efforts to signal legal certainty in the power sector, following Iberdrola’s US$4.2 billion exit from the Mexican energy market last week. The Spanish firm cited regulatory instability in its decision to exit Mexico’s electricity market.
