The Council of Photovoltaic Energy Professionals (CPEF) took over a working group, assembling influential figures from the solar industry in Mexico. In a virtual workshop held on Jan. 25, 2024, the council facilitated comprehensive dialog, addressing critical aspects of solar energy in Mexico, from challenges and opportunities to women's participation and the broader development strategies.

The workshop featured key leaders such as Rosanety Barrios, Coordinator, Xochitl Gálvez’s Energy Working Group, and members of Voz Experta, including Abril Moreno, Elma Trejo, and Susana Cazorla. The agenda encompassed a thorough analysis of the current state, security, legislation, and outlook for solar energy in Mexico. Among the primary discussions were the challenges and opportunities within the renewable energy sector, coupled with strategies for empowering women in the industry.

Cazorla emphasized the need for sufficient, cost-effective clean energy, considering the global climate crisis and water scarcity conditions. She urged clear regulations, law enforcement, and vigilant compliance to achieve these goals. Barrios stressed that energy sovereignty involves sustainability, security, competition, and legal certainty, extending beyond the type of fuel used.

Expert partners from various regions of Mexico joined the dialogue, providing diverse perspectives on legal certainty, infrastructure investment, and the promotion of renewable energies. The discussion covered the five helices of economic and social development.

Jaime Delgado, Professor and Legal Specialist, CPEF, highlighted the significance of Jan. 31 as a potential turning point for Mexico's energy industry. The industry will await the outcome of the vote on two projects regarding the constitutionality of changes to the Electrical Industry Law. Legal certainty, according to Delgado, is crucial for attracting foreign direct investment and leveraging the advantages of nearshoring.

Abril Moreno, a prominent figure in the energy sector, emphasized the urgency of investing in renewables for Mexico's global competitiveness. She highlighted the country's record-breaking achievement in wind energy investment cost and warned against the economic consequences of not embracing sustainable energy practices.

In just over two hours, the workshop provided a platform for robust discussions among industry leaders, reflecting the determination to shape a resilient and sustainable energy landscape in Mexico.
