Authorities from the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT) and Mexico's Ministry of Energy (SENER) will begin a three-phase consultation process with local communities in Ciudad Ixtepec regarding the installation of a green hydrogen plant.

The process, set to run from January through December, will involve an informational phase, a deliberative phase, and a formal consultation, while adhering to the established protocols of each participating community. The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) and the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INPI) will participate in the consultation process.

The green hydrogen plant is part of the Development Hub for Well-Being (PODEBI), which seeks to expand clean energy use in the region. Helax Istmo, a subsidiary of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, will lead the project. The facility will produce green hydrogen for the maritime sector and export it as green ammonia.

The project will also include two wind farms, a solar park, and a desalination plant, requiring significant resources and land in the area. The initiative aligns with CIIT’s strategy to promote energy sustainability and economic development in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region.
