Tamaulipas Governor Américo Villarreal held a series of pivotal meetings with federal officials in Mexico City to advance strategic initiatives within Tamaulipas' energy sector. In the first meetings, the state governor met with Miguel Ángel Maciel, Minister of Energy; Manuel Bartlett, CFE Director; and José Ramón Silva, Minister of Energy Development, Tamaulipas.

The focus of the meetings was on evaluating the proposal for standardizing electricity rates in Tamaulipas to ensure fair energy access for all citizens. Discussions also encompassed investments for expanding electrical transmission and distribution lines in the state.

Villarreal underscored that Tamaulipas currently boasts a 99.80% electrification rate, ranking fifth among federal entities in terms of electric energy service coverage. He reiterated the state’s commitment to collaborate with SENER to achieve 100% electrification by the end of this year. Following the session, participants agreed to develop a collaborative work agenda to unveil various forthcoming projects in Tamaulipas.

Villarreal toured the facilities of the National Center for Natural Gas Control (CENAGAS). During the visit, Villarreal observed real-time operations, monitoring, and control of the country's hydrocarbons. This system guarantees a comprehensive supply of natural gas through secure, reliable, efficient, and environmentally friendly transportation, storage, and management, playing a pivotal role in Mexico's energy development.

Subsequently, a work meeting delved into energy projects coordinated between the federal government and Tamaulipas. Notably, the relocation of the gas pipeline in Reynosa was discussed, with a new 24in infrastructure set to cover a 56km stretch. The federal official reported that the project is currently 14.8% complete.

A significant strategic initiative presented during the meeting was the development of a Gas Storage Station in Soto la Marina, Tamaulipas. The station aims to supply liquefied gas to the region, including Victoria City.

The Brazil Field project, involving the development of a Natural Gas Storage System in Depleted Fields, with a potential storage capacity of 31Bcf equivalent to a 30-day supply for Tamaulipas and three days for the nation, was also reviewed.

Villarreal and Maciel discussed crucial points to drive additional projects for Tamaulipas, including Well-Being Gas Stations, pivotal in supporting economic activities in fishing areas; the fertilizer plant project, positioning Tamaulipas as a key player in the agricultural sector; and the Trion Field exploitation off the coast of Matamoros.
