Banco del Bienestar Earns Moody’s AAA.mx Rating, Stable Outlook
Moody’s Local Mexico has assigned Banco del Bienestar a long-term local currency issuer rating of “AAA.mx” with a Stable outlook, citing the bank’s explicit government guarantee and its role in expanding financial inclusion across Mexico.
The rating agency noted that this top-tier rating on its national scale reflects the bank’s operational transformation since January 2022. Key developments include the creation of a nationwide branch network designed to expand access to financial services in underserved communities, with a particular emphasis on gender inclusion.
By the end of 2024, Banco del Bienestar reported 2,750 operational branches, making it the largest social banking network in Mexico. This expansion has enabled the bank to serve over 31 million beneficiaries of federal social programs, including pensions, scholarships, and financial aid.
Moody’s praised the bank’s operational improvements, highlighting three consecutive years of positive financial results, reduced administrative expenses, and enhanced internal governance and institutional capacity.
The rating reflects Banco del Bienestar’s sustainable operating model and the government’s ongoing support, given its strategic role in distributing federal resources. Moody’s also emphasized the bank’s robust management and governance, which exceed sector averages.
Banco del Bienestar stated that the rating acknowledges its progress in institutional strength, financial inclusion, operational efficiency, and profitability since 2022. With over 3,100 branches planned, the bank remains positioned as Mexico’s leading financial institution in terms of territorial coverage.
