BBVA chose Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate its data-driven transformation. Both companies joined forces to leverage advanced analytics and data services in the cloud, taking a decisive step in its transformation process based on data and artificial intelligence (AI).

“This collaboration with AWS and the creation of our new data platform represents a significant milestone for BBVA. By adopting AWS technology in our data strategy, we are enhancing our management capabilities, facilitating data availability and leveraging AWS analytics capabilities to increase the impact of our data projects. This strategic collaboration is perfectly aligned with our goal of becoming a truly digital, data and AI-driven organization,” says Ricardo Oliver, Global Head of Data Engineering, BBVA.

BBVA will leverage AWS technology, analytics and machine learning capabilities to transform its internal processes, improve the management of its risk models, drive growth and provide innovative solutions to its customers. BBVA will also have access to AWS’s generative AI and large language models (LLMs) capabilities including Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed service that provides access to foundational models through an API.

BBVA can also use Amazon’s SageMaker to simplify the building, training and deploying of machine learning models, as well as efficiently analyze the data produced by the over 1,000 data scientists at BBVA AI Factory, BBVA’s global AI capabilities development center and other specialized data teams. The platform will also bring scalability, flexibility and efficiency in managing massive amounts of information to more than 2,800 data engineers and architects.

“By working with AWS, BBVA will be able to use the most secure cloud technology environment to put data at the heart of all applications and processes. Financial institutions worldwide rely on AWS to transform themselves into data-driven companies, make more agile business decisions, and operate with greater confidence. Through AWS capabilities, BBVA will be able to leverage its own data and stay at the forefront of banking innovation, increasing its business insights and developing more engaging and personalized banking services faster and more affordable,” says Scott Mullins, general manager, Global Financial Services, AWS.
