In celebration of World Radiology Day on Nov. 8, Hospital Juárez de México showcased the advances in radiology that are shaping healthcare in Mexico. With new technology, particularly AI, the hospital's radiology services are enhancing diagnostic capabilities nationwide, from detecting fractures and monitoring pregnancies to identifying diseases previously undetectable by the human eye.

Agustín Rodríguez, Chief of Radiodiagnostic and Imaging Services, Hospital Juárez de México, emphasizes the critical role of radiology in medicine, noting its ability to detect diseases or injuries that disrupt normal bodily functions. For example, X-rays can reveal fractures caused by trauma, mammograms aid in early breast cancer detection, and ultrasounds enable prenatal monitoring from conception through fetal development. In 2023 alone, Hospital Juárez de México’s radiology services conducted about 43,000 studies, including X-rays, ultrasounds, and mammograms.

Rodríguez highlights the impact of AI integration in modern radiology, as AI-driven tools now assist in detecting conditions and abnormalities that were once nearly invisible to the human eye. This technology has been especially transformative in advancing medical imaging accuracy across the country, strengthening radiology infrastructure and supporting diagnostic precision.

“In the age of technology, AI stands as a powerful ally in the search for better health services and more effective treatments for patients,” says Adrián Alcantara, General Manager, Doctoralia México.

Hospital Juárez de México has two magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) units, two computed tomography (CT) scanners, two mammography units, two conventional X-ray rooms, a fluoroscopy suite, and a dedicated area for interventional radiology, says Rodríguez. Additionally, the hospital offers five ultrasound units, a bone densitometry scanner, and a C-arm with fluoroscopy for therapeutic procedures. Together, these facilities help provide accurate, timely diagnoses to improve patient outcomes.

Rodríguez says that World Radiology Day serves as a reminder of the essential contributions of radiologists and radiologic staff, who play a critical role in early diagnosis.
