AT&T Mexico, in partnership with Ericsson and Tecnológico de Monterrey’s campus in Mexico City, has announced the successful implementation of the first private 5G network at the university.

The network was installed at the CEMEX Business and Technology Development Center (CEDETEC), located in the Mexico City campus. This initiative underscores AT&T Mexico's commitment to fostering a robust technological ecosystem that can fully capitalize on the capabilities of 5G technology for the benefit of Mexico and its diverse industries.

"5G networks will increase productivity in manufacturing, reduce CO2 emissions, and save lives in mining, to name a few examples of the potential for prosperity, inclusion, and sustainability in Mexico," says Mónica Aspe, CEO, AT&T Mexico.

This initiative aligns with AT&T Mexico's commitment to innovation and supporting the entrepreneurial community, says Aspe. She also highlights the launch of the AT&T 5G Fund, which will continue to drive innovation and enable new technological applications.

The 5G network emerged as one of the winning projects from the first edition of the AT&T 5G Fund: the 5G-Enabled Robotics project led by David Romero. This project has established a collaborative technological laboratory aimed at developing 5G-based use cases using a testbed model.

Fabian Monge, Acting President for LATAM North and the Caribbean, Ericsson, highlights the importance of collaboration between academia and the private sector in Mexico's digitization process: "We are confident that collaboration between academia and the private sector is fundamental to accelerating the country's digitization and closing the digital divide."

The 5G Lab, equipped with the country's first private network, represents a significant step in promoting the digitization of industries and economic growth in the country, says Monge.

Private 5G networks will enable harnessing the high speed and low latency offered by this technology, driving the development of Internet of Things (IoT) and AI connections. This will lead to automation, cost reduction, and customization in sectors essential to the economy and nearshoring, positioning Mexico in the global technological landscape.
