This week, Amazon Web Services (AWS) revealed plans to invest over US$5 billion in Mexico to establish a new infrastructure region in Central Mexico by 2025. In other news, FiberLight introduces new fiber routes connecting the United States and Mexico, establishing a crucial link between technology hubs and facilitating data transmission.

AWS To Launch New Region in Central Mexico
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced plans to establish a new infrastructure region in Mexico by early 2025, with a long-term investment of over US$5 billion in the country over the next 15 years. The AWS Mexico (Central) Region will initially provide three Availability Zones. This expansion aims to provide developers, startups, enterprises, and organizations in Mexico with increased options for running applications and serving end users.
FEMCICs Call for Highway Maintenance Funds
The Mexican Federation of Civil Engineering Associations (FEMCIC) has expressed concerns over the cancellation of the maintenance and conservation program for federal highways in Mexico. The program, formerly managed by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), has been suspended due to instructions from the Ministry of Finance. FEMCIC warns that this decision could lead to job losses and the deterioration of Mexico's toll-free roads, impacting the country's 42,000km network.
Mexico City Metropolitan Area Could Improve Water Supply by 30%
The Mexican federal government has pledged to enhance water supply in the Mexico City metropolitan area by more than 30% within the next year through the excavation of new wells. This decision responds to concerns about water shortages in the region, as over 56 municipalities have experienced such issues in the past year.
BLOQUE: Queretaro Center for Innovation and Creative Technology
Luis Nava, Municipal President of Queretaro, inaugurated the Center for Innovation and Creative Technology "BLOQUE" alongside the Governor of Queretaro, Mauricio Kuri, and Leonardo Lomelí, Dean, UNAM. The center aims to position the city as a hub for technological development in Latin America. BLOQUE is designed to be a unique technological ecosystem accessible to all residents, fostering training and entrepreneurship while reducing the digital divide.
Millicom-Harmonic to Accelerate Fiber Development in Latin America
Luxembourg mobile operator Millicom|TIGO and US virtualized broadband and video provider Harmonic have jointly launched XGS-PON fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), an extension of the cOS broadband platform. This initiative aims to provide high-speed broadband services to nine countries in Latin America.
GOLMEX Invests US$17.5 Million in New Snack Plant in Queretaro
The Government of Queretaro celebrated the inauguration of GOLMEX's new production plant in the state. GOLMEX, a Mexican company specializing in healthy snacks, invested US$17.5 million in the plant, which is expected to generate 122 jobs for the local population.
FiberLight’s New Fiber Routes Will Connect Mexico, Texas
FiberLight, a seasoned fiber infrastructure provider, has introduced new fiber routes connecting Dallas, Texas, to Queretaro and Nuevo Leon in Mexico. This expansion is a result of collaboration with MDC Data Centers and NeuLink, a telecommunications operator.
