Mexico’s Construction Investment Drops 1.9% in August

In August 2024, Mexico’s construction investment dropped by 1.9%, led by a 4% decline in construction spending, per INEGI data. Residential construction fell 6.4% month-over-month but rose 1.5% year-over-year, while non-residential construction decreased 1.3% monthly and 10.2% annually.

FIBRA Macquarie to Develop Two Class A Buildings in Guadalajara

FIBRA Macquarie Mexico has acquired a 10ha site in Guadalajara’s El Salto industrial corridor for US$8.3 million to develop two Class A industrial buildings, adding 42,735m² of leasable space to its portfolio. The area, marked by low vacancy (below 3%) and rising rents, is a high-demand industrial hub. This acquisition boosts FIBRA Macquarie’s total industrial land bank to nearly 400,000m² and aligns with its commitment to sustainable building practices.

ABB, Niedax Launch Abnex Inc. for North American Cable Management

ABB and Niedax Group have formed a joint venture, Abnex Inc., to expand in the North American cable management market. This partnership combines ABB’s and Niedax’s expertise to provide advanced cable tray solutions for electrical contractors and distributors in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Abnex Inc., now with over 200 employees, aims to enhance efficiency and delivery through automated, sustainable manufacturing.

Industrial Gate Forms Joint Venture to Boost Class A Developments

Industrial Gate, backed by TC Latin America Partners, has entered a joint venture with a global investor to develop Class A industrial properties in Mexico, targeting US$450 million in capital. This partnership aims to meet rising nearshoring demand with sustainable, LEED-certified properties for multinational tenants across major cities like Mexico City and Guadalajara. 

Colima Expands Manzanillo Highway to Boost Logistics, Trade

Colima has expanded the Colima-Manzanillo highway in the La Salada segment to six lanes, with an investment of over MX$4.97 billion (US$245.2 million). This upgrade improves safety and traffic flow on a key logistics corridor for the Manzanillo port. The expansion supports port access, decongests traffic, and allows toll-free access for light vehicles on the Armeria-Manzanillo section.

Baja California Boosts Water Access, Infrastructure

Baja California is advancing sustainable development through the RESPIRA program and the Bono Verde initiative, focusing on infrastructure, green spaces, and water projects. RESPIRA enhances connectivity for 140,000 vehicles daily, while new parks in Mexicali and Tijuana serve 850,000 residents. Bono Verde funds 54 water projects, boosting access and conservation across the state.
