New Infrastructure Plans, Intermodal Services: The Weekly Roundup

This week, the Mexican government reported that its initiative to revive passenger services on existing railways is gaining traction with prominent entities such as Grupo México and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC). Meanwhile, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) announced the delivery of over 500 infrastructure projects, amounting to a substantial investment of over US$12 billion.

In other news, the Government of Mexico City unveiled plans for 2024, including a US$1.13 billion infrastructure program that tackles topics ranging from sustainable urban development to cultural enrichment. Finally, Bison Transport and CPKC join forces to introduce new intermodal services, aiming to enhance cross-border multimodal solutions.

SICT Assigns Control of Four More Airports to SEMAR

The SICT has assigned the administration and operation of four airports: Colima National Airport, Sonora International Airport, Matamoros International Airport, and Loreto International Airport to the SEMAR through the Mexico City Airport Group (GACM). The majority shareholder, SEMAR, will oversee the airports, with Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA) serving as the minority shareholder.

Jorge Nuño, Minister of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, announced the delivery of over 500 infrastructure projects in Mexico, representing an investment of over US$12 billion, equivalent to 1.3% of the national GDP. These projects address regional socio-economic imbalances and create opportunities for people nationwide, focusing on mitigating disparities through road construction, economic development, and reducing inequalities.

Bison Transport, CPKC Introduce New Intermodal Services

Bison Transport, a leader in logistics, has partnered with CPKC to offer intermodal transportation services along CPKC's north-south corridor, connecting Mexico, Canada, and the United States. The collaboration will provide Bison Transport's growing customer base with enhanced access to cross-border multimodal solutions through CPKC's rail corridors.

Queretaro, CONAGUA Announce Initiative to Tackle Water Crisis

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador oversaw the signing of a coordination agreement between the Government of Queretaro and CONAGUA, aiming to ensure water supply in Queretaro's metropolitan area through the "Batan Water for All" system. The system can supply up to 1,500 L/s, similar to the supply now provided by Acueducto II, and features two state-of-the-art water treatment plants.

Mexico City Unveils US$1.13 Billion Infrastructure Plan for 2024

Martí Batres, Mayor of Mexico City, has unveiled the 2024 Infrastructure Program, allocating a US$1.13 billion budget for 21 priority projects across seven key areas. These areas are named City of Rights, Sustainable City, Public Space, Road Infrastructure, More and Better Mobility, Cultural Capital of America, and Chapultepec: Nature and Culture.
