Nuevo Leon Will Pour MX$140 Billion Into Infrastructure Projects

Nuevo Leon expects a significant infrastructure boom over the next few years, as several municipalities and government institutions presented their projects to improve the state. 

Over the course of Governor Samuel Garcia’s administration, the entity will invest MX$140 billion (US$7.38 billion) in public works, mobility, security, roads, health and parks, among other priority projects. Garcia explained that the state has a “very clear” vision to improve Nuevo Leon, said the state via a press release. 

During the 2023 Annual Public Works Meeting of the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry, state and municipal agencies presented investment programs that aim to follow the infrastructure boom that is expected in Nuevo Leon. 

“The amount can easily reach MX$140 billion (US$7.38 billion) in five years without considering other sources, such as financed public works, private contracts, concessions or financial operations. Of course, a lot of infrastructure is required to do so; these first days of government implied a lot of planning,” said Garcia. 

The governor highlighted works on three metro lines; four new highways: La Gloria-Colombia, Highway 1 North, the Interserrana Highway and the beltway; the Suburban Train; the Colombian Border Port; Sintram and C5. In terms of water infrastructure, Garcia reviewed advances on the Plan to Guarantee Water until 2050, including works at the El Cuchillo II Aqueduct, the Libertad Dam, new treatment plants and pressure modulation. The Nuevo Leon government explained that the El Cuchillo II dam will provide 5,000L/s of water to the metropolitan area of the state, while guaranteeing supply for the next 10 years. The project consists of six pumps that will bring water from more than 110km away, as reported by MBN.

Municipalities of Monterrey have also presented their infrastructure investment projects for 2023: General Escobedo, Pesqueria, San Pedro, and Santa Catarina on the one hand and Guadalupe, San Nicolas and Apodaca on the other, along with Nuevo Leon Highway Network Head, Mauricio Zavala Martínez, and ICIFED Director General, Javier Martínez Lankenau.
