SICT Advances “Bachetón” Road Maintenance Program
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) reports significant advances in its “Bachetón” Road Maintenance Program, aimed at preserving the Federal Toll-Free Road Network. This initiative encompasses routine and periodic maintenance efforts, focusing on improving road safety and functionality across the country.
Since the program began in November 2024, 12,760km of roads have been maintained, with 70,906 potholes repaired using 53,343t of asphalt mix, covering an area of 331,326m2. These efforts have been supported by 1,939 work units, involving 1,662 workers organized into 277 crews.
The routine maintenance phase, which will continue until February 2025, aims to rehabilitate 44,574km through 134 work fronts, creating an estimated 8,500 jobs in the process.
Simultaneously, periodic maintenance began in December, with a goal to repair 688km by April 2025. This phase includes milling and the installation of a 5cm-thick asphalt layer, requiring 13,439t of asphalt mix to cover 116,865m2. This initiative has engaged 131 work units and 319 workers across 28 work fronts. It is expected to generate 2,760 jobs during its execution.
The Federal Road Network Conservation Program operates through two main streams: routine and periodic maintenance. Together, these efforts aim to preserve critical infrastructure, stimulate employment, and ensure safer conditions for road users. By the program’s conclusion, millions of Mexicans who rely on these roads daily will benefit from improved safety and enhanced efficiency, say authorities.
