SEMAR, FIT, and Gruma Sign Commercial Agreement for CIIT
Tortilla manufacturing company Gruma signed a commercial agreement with the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) and the Tehuantepec Isthmus Railway (FIT), aiming to revolutionize supply chain logistics near the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT).
The agreement, signed on June 12, focuses on strengthening the infrastructure of the FIT, particularly through the acquisition of hopper cars that will significantly enhance the transportation of maize grain along this modernized railway route.
The modernization of Line Z of the CIIT, completed in September 2023, has been instrumental in revitalizing cargo transport between the strategic Ports of Coatzacoalcos and Salina Cruz. According to FIT’s press release, this upgrade has not only optimized transit speeds and increased cargo volumes, but has also improved operational efficiency, cementing this route as a vital artery for economic and social development in Mexico's southeast.
The modernization has enabled reduced transportation costs and a more efficient supply chain, directly benefiting consumers by maintaining competitive prices for final products. Strengthening the FIT's railway infrastructure not only improves delivery times but also promotes job creation and local development in key states such as Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Tabasco.
The CIIT aims to enhance Mexico's internal connectivity and position the country as a global logistics hub, facilitating trade between the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
