First Presidential Debate / Tensions With Ecuador

First Presidential Debate. President López Obrador said the questions during the first presidential debate criticized his government, insinuating that it was corrupt.
The first of three scheduled debates among presidential candidates, including Fuerza y Corazón por México candidate Xóchitl Gálvez, MORENA candidate Claudia Sheinbaum, and Movimiento Ciudadano candidate Jorge Álvarez Máynez, took place on April 7th. The topics discussed were education, healthcare, transparency, corruption, non-discrimination, vulnerable groups, and violence against women. According to a poll conducted by Enkoll for EL PAÍS and W Radio, Sheinbaum was the winner of the first debate with support from 46% of respondents. Gálvez reached 25% support, while Máynez scored 10%.
Tensions With Ecuador. López Obrador stressed that there is no justification for the violation of the asylum granted to Jorge Glas and assured that there will be justice.
The government of Ecuador forcibly entered the Mexican embassy within its borders to arrest the Ecuadorian Vice President, who was granted asylum after being accused of corruption. In response, Mexico announced the termination of diplomatic ties with Ecuador, condemning the move as a violation of international law and Mexico's sovereignty. López Obrador stated his intention to initiate legal proceedings against Ecuador at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), aiming for a favorable outcome that could lead to penalties to Ecuador or its exclusion from international organizations such as the OAS.

The Mexican health system is experiencing a deep transformation. The integration of health services through IMSS-Bienestar aims to offer care to those who are not affiliated to other public institutions, such as ISSSTE or ISSFAM. The federal government expects all entities to operate within the IMSS-Bienestar program by 2040. So far, 23 states have joined the program, benefiting 635 hospitals and 53.2 million mexicans.
