Progress in Social Welfare Programs. Ariadna Montiel, Minister of Welfare, reported on the status of the Women’s Well-Being Pension program, stating that as of Oct.20, 2024, 704,947 women have registered. Additionally, the “Health Door to Door” program has visited 568,896 homes to date. Today, the administration will start hiring medical personnel for regular visits to elderly and disabled individuals, with efforts expected to conclude by Nov. 15, 2024. 

Rita Cetina Scholarship Progress. Mario Delgado, Minister of Public Education, reported that 7,000 assemblies have been held to advance the Rita Cetina Scholarship. Distribution of scholarship cards and economic support will begin in 2025, targeting all students in preschool, primary, and secondary public schools to support families and ensure students remain in the education system.

Healthy Living Strategy in Schools. On Sept. 30, 2024, a new agreement was published to promote healthy eating and lifestyles in schools. This measure, set to take effect on March 29, 2025, will apply to all schools within the national education system. The initiative seeks to address the ongoing sale of products with low nutritional value in most schools.

Sheinbaum Challenges Judicial Reform Suspension. President Sheinbaum accused Judge Nancy Juárez of contempt following her order to remove the judicial reform decree from the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF). Juárez pointed out that former President López Obrador violated the provisional suspension, which prohibited publishing the reform in the DOF, as reported by MBN. Sheinbaum clarified that the government has not been formally notified of the definitive suspension ordered by Juárez, which requires the removal of the judicial reform from the DOF.

Murder of Father Marcelo Pérez Pérez. President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed sorrow over the murder of Father Marcelo Pérez Pérez, parish priest of the Church of Guadalupe in San Cristobal de las Casas, who was fatally shot by two hitmen on Oct. 20, 2024. She emphasized that a thorough investigation is underway and stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring that the crime does not go unpunished.
