Global Coalition for Social Justice Advances Agenda at ILO Forum
The Global Coalition for Social Justice convened its second annual forum to assess progress and reaffirm its commitment to advancing social justice in the workplace. The forum brought together a wide range of global stakeholders, including government representatives, labor and employer organizations, financial institutions, and civil society.
“Social justice is not an ethereal ideal, but a concrete necessity,” says Luis Abinader, President of the Dominican Republic. He adds that the workplace remains a critical arena where such principles must be implemented.
Launched in 2023, the Global Coalition has positioned social justice as a central element of policymaking and economic strategy. Its second forum served not only to track progress but also to reaffirm the coalition’s vision of turning shared principles into coordinated global action.
Brazil’s Minister of Labour and Employment Luiz Marinho emphasized that the Coalition is shifting from shared ambition to concrete action in 2025. Meanwhile, Gilbert Houngbo, Director General, ILO, highlighted the Coalition’s rapid evolution into a platform comprising over 370 partners. He emphasized the need for measurable outcomes and sustained momentum, particularly ahead of the upcoming Second Summit on Social Development in November.
“We are seeing increasingly tangible results that reflect the cooperative vision that animates the Global Coalition,” says Houngbo.
