LinkedIn has introduced a suite of tools, including the Next Role Explorer, designed to optimize internal mobility within organizations. Launched on March 6, these tools empower employees globally to receive alerts about internal roles on LinkedIn Jobs and express their interest, seamlessly integrating this information into LinkedIn Recruiter for efficient talent identification. This strategic initiative not only aligns skills development with organizational needs but also helps employers build a robust talent pipeline.

The Next Role Explorer promises to unlock a new dimension in career planning through the recommendation of potential roles to employees based on their current job title and career objectives. This tool's proactive design actively fosters internal mobility within organizations, standing out for its innovative approach. The importance of utilizing internal career sites to communicate open positions, foster internal mobility, and align with the evolving dynamics of the job market is underscored in the Symphony Talent report for 2024.

Jill Raines, Director of Product Management, LinkedIn, expressed her excitement for the global rollout of these features, highlighting their significance in an ever-evolving job landscape. “Especially in the age of AI, when jobs are changing on us even if we are not changing jobs, these tools can help organizations align skill[s] development to what their company needs,” said Raines.

Employees will have the capacity to receive real-time alerts on LinkedIn Jobs about internal roles and express interest. This feature seamlessly integrates with LinkedIn Recruiter, ensuring immediate visibility by hiring teams. Additionally, this tool directs employees to customizable role guides that delineate the specific skills essential for success in a particular role.

Following the identification of roles, employees can receive personalized learning plans aimed at tracking their progress in acquiring the critical skills necessary for career advancement. These recommendations will encompass both hard and soft skills, reflecting LinkedIn's commitment to comprehensive skills development.

LinkedIn continues to strengthen its features promoting internal mobility, urging organizations to incorporate it into their holistic hiring strategy. Despite a recent decline, internal hiring remains advantageous, yielding financial benefits and improved talent retention, according to The Josh Bersin Co. Internal hiring contributes to a positive company culture and improved time-to-hire rates, emphasizing the need for a culture of movement within organizations.
