Unilever, Enactus Carry Empowerment Project for Women
Unilever México and Enactus marked the conclusion of their Women's Artisan Empowerment Project with an event at the National Museum of Popular Cultures. The initiative honored the work of female artisans from Tlamacazapa, a community in Taxco, Guerrero, facing significant challenges. The event also featured the opening of an exhibition showcasing the artisans' traditional palm craft, open to the public until Aug. 4.
"Unilever's mission is to improve people's lives through our products. Partnerships like this initiative amplify our impact. We have seen an increase in product sales, strengthened social skills, and boosted self-esteem among participants through workshops and training," stated Juan Pablo Galindo, Director General, Unilever México. Unilever has fostered an inclusive environment in the community for eight years, providing artisans with tools and improved production processes.
Jesús Esparza, CEO, Enactus México, noted that the initiative has achieved training of 150 women in various disciplines, including e-commerce, giving them valuable tools for a better future and helping them reach new markets globally. “Since 2016, our partnership with Unilever México has transformed the lives of women artisans in the region through skill and business training, promoting a more equitable future through health, nutrition, and self-esteem programs,” he said.
The women of Tlamacazapa now have access to new distribution channels, including online stores, department stores, festivals, and bazaars. This development not only creates business opportunities but also equips artisans to continue progressing toward success and a better future.
