Mexico Launches Digital Transformation, Telecommunications Agency

The Federal Executive Branch and the Ministry has formalized the creation of the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency (ATDT). This entity will assume key functions in digital technologies, telecommunications, and technological sovereignty.

Mexico, China Sign Agreement to Boost Higher Education Exchange

Mexico's Minister of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo, and China's Minister of Education, Huai Jinpeng, signed a higher education cooperation agreement focused on the exchange of teachers, researchers, and students in key areas such as science, technology, and innovation. The agreement, with an initial term of five years, seeks to strengthen educational ties between the two nations.

Mexico and UAE Boost Innovation, Trade, Collaboration

Mexico and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are strengthening their bilateral relationship with an emphasis on technological innovation, trade, culture, and energy, said Salem Rashed Alowais, UAE Ambassador to Mexico, during the celebrations of the UAE's 53rd national anniversary. Representatives for both  countries also highlighted a memorandum of understanding signed in 2023, which aims to enhance the partnership between the nations.

Digital Sales Platforms Now Used by 60% of Manufacturing SMEs

E-commerce is rapidly becoming a key pillar for SMEs in Mexico, especially within the consumer goods industry. According to the GS1 2024 Barometer, 60% of SMEs in the manufacturing sector now sell their products through digital platforms.

Mexico Updates NOM to Promote Cleaner Freight Transport

Starting on Jan. 1, 2025, Mexico will implement the updated provisions of Mexican Official Standard NOM-044-SEMARNAT-2017 (NOM-044), which will eliminate the certification for the production and importation of heavy vehicles with Euro V and EPA 07 technologies. This change seeks to reduce polluting emissions and promote more advanced technologies. However, industry representatives warn that the move could challenge the industry.

Pat Gelsinger Steps Down as CEO of Intel

Pat Gelsinger stepped down from his position as CEO of Intel on Dec. 1 and resigned from his position on the board of directors. David Zinsner, CFO, and Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s Client Computing Group, will assume leadership as interim co-CEOs while the company searches for a permanent successor. 

REMspace Achieves First-Ever Exchange of Information in Dreams

REMspace, a California-based neurotechnology startup, says it has successfully facilitated communication between individuals during lucid dreams. The milestone marks the first instance of two people exchanging a message while still in a dream state, with implications for future communication technologies and potential commercial applications.
