In Mexico, the plastic recycling rate is currently around 50%, with a target of 80% by 2030, as discussed at ANIPAC's Technical Congress on October 3. Meanwhile, Qualcomm and STMicroelectronics are collaborating to advance IoT development through AI-driven connectivity solutions. A World Robotics report indicates that 4.3 million robots were installed in factories worldwide in 2023, enhancing efficiency but displacing many low-skill jobs.

Experts note that Mexico's young, skilled workforce and cost efficiencies give it a strategic edge in IT Managed Services (AMS), positioning the country as a potential leader in the global tech sector amidst rising nearshoring trends.

Qualcomm & STMicro Partner to Accelerate IoT Development with AI

Qualcomm and STMicroelectronics (ST) have signed a strategic collaboration to integrate Qualcomm's wireless connectivity solutions with ST's microcontroller ecosystem. This alliance aims to accelerate the development of industrial and consumer IoT applications powered by edge artificial intelligence, facilitating a more agile, cost-effective, and optimized design for developers.

Robotics in Manufacturing: Efficiency vs. Job Displacement

Globally, factories installed approximately 4.3 million robot units in 2023, showcasing manufacturers’ interest in enhancing operational efficiency without sacrificing cost-effectiveness, according to a World Robotics 2024 report. While this shift boosts productivity, it is simultaneously displacing low-skill jobs, increasing pressure on workers to upskill.

Amazon's RTO Mandate Sparks Employee Discontent and Concerns

According to a recent Blind survey, 91% of Amazon employees are dissatisfied with the company's recent announcement mandating a five-day return to the office (RTO) beginning January 2, 2025. In turn, 73% of employees are considering job changes due to concerns over reduced flexibility and work-life balance. This sentiment reflects a broader apprehension in the tech industry, where strict RTO policies may drive away high-performing employees.

Sustainable Cooling Market to Reach US$600 Billion by 2050

The cooling market in developing economies is projected to grow from around US$300 billion annually to at least US$600 billion by 2050, according to a report released today by the Cool Coalition, led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
