Aeromexico Leads Global Airlines in Punctuality for August

Aeroméxico has regained its position as the world's most punctual airline, according to data from Cirium, a leading aviation analytics firm. The airline achieved an On-Time Performance (OTP) rate of 86.54% in August, a significant improvement from 81.56% in July.
In August, Aeroméxico operated 17,444 flights. This return to the top spot follows a brief period where Saudia, a major Middle Eastern airline, surpassed it with an OTP of 88.22%. Saudia has now dropped to second place with an OTP of 84.60%. Avianca moved up to third place with an OTP of 83.19%, while Azul followed closely in fourth with 83.06%. LATAM Airlines fell to fifth place with an OTP of 83.05%, down from third place the previous month.
Cirium's analysis also highlighted trends in the Latin American region. Copa Airlines emerged as the top regional airline with an OTP of 90.65%, a notable increase from 83.77% in July. Tocumen International Airport, Copa's primary hub, was the best-performing medium-sized airport globally, with a 92.68% OTP.
In terms of airports, Benito Juárez International Airport in Mexico City (AICM) was ranked the most punctual airport worldwide, with an OTP of 84.33%. This marks a significant improvement from 78.33% in July. The AICM outperformed other major airports, including Riyadh King Khalid International Airport and São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport.
“We are pleased to see Aeromexico return to the top spot for global punctuality”, said Cirium spokesperson, Maria Rodríguez.
European airlines also showed improvements in August, with a 37% decrease in flight cancellations compared to July. SAS emerged as the top-performing airline in Europe, with an OTP of 83.53%, followed by Iberia Express at 83.43%. Icelandair and Vueling also reported gains in OTP, while Norwegian saw a substantial improvement, reaching 78.56%.
