Ultra-low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines will introduce first-class seating on its aircraft starting in late 2025. This move is part of the airline's strategy to expand its appeal by offering premium options while maintaining its low-cost model.

. In early 2025, the airline will begin offering complimentary upgrades to first-class seats for members of its Elite Gold tier and higher. Additionally, by mid-2025, passengers with Platinum and Diamond Elite status will be able to travel with a companion at no extra cost.

This announcement follows a series of initiatives by Frontier to stay competitive in the evolving airline industry. The new offering comes just weeks after Spirit Airlines filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. While Spirit continues to operate as normal, its bankruptcy proceedings could provide an opportunity for Frontier and its competitors, including JetBlue, to expand their market share.

“We have listened to our customers and their desire for more premium options,” said Barry Biffle, CEO, Frontier Airlines. “The new first-class seating will cater to those looking for an upgraded experience, without the hefty price tag typically associated with premium cabins.”

Despite being an ultra-low-cost carrier, Frontier’s strategy of adding first-class seating aligns with broader trends in the airline industry, where even budget carriers are responding to the growing demand for more premium offerings.
