The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is currently investigating a potential data security breach after reports emerged that 42,000 records may have been compromised. The possible breach was first revealed in a post on a hacker forum on Jan. 6, which claimed that the sensitive data had been stolen from the organization. In response, ICAO confirmed it was looking into the matter but has not yet provided specific details about the nature of the attack or which data may have been exposed.
The organization stated that its investigation is still in the early stages and emphasized that no further information could be provided at this time. While ICAO has not confirmed the exact scope of the breach, the incident has attracted attention due to the large number of records reportedly affected. The claims made on the hacker forum have not been independently verified, and no additional details have been provided about the individual or group responsible for the alleged hack.
ICAO, a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for coordinating global aviation standards, has faced cybersecurity challenges in the past. In 2016, the organization suffered a cyberattack that led to significant improvements in its security measures. Following that breach, ICAO reported that it had strengthened its cybersecurity infrastructure to better protect against future incidents.
"At this early stage of our investigation, we are unable to provide additional details about the incident or confirm specific claims regarding the data potentially involved," said ICAO.
