Lithuanian Airline Avion Express Targets Latin America via Mexico
Lithuanian airline Avion Express is set to expand into Mexico as part of its strategy to enter the broader Latin American market. The airline has begun the process of obtaining an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) in Mexico, a procedure expected to take up to 24 months.
“We recently obtained an AOC in Brazil and see significant potential in Mexico, where our services can deliver substantial value. Our goal is to establish sustained operations in the region,” said Darius Kajokas, CEO, Avion Express.
With two decades of experience, Avion Express operates in Lithuania, Malta, and Brazil and is recognized as a global leader in ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance). Its fleet of 55 Airbus A320 aircraft serves carriers such as Eurowings, Flybondi, KM Malta, SunExpress, and Transavia.
Kajokas highlighted Mexico’s strong market potential, driven by both international and domestic tourism. The country attracts over 45 million international tourists annually, and more than 830,000 domestic flights were recorded in 2024, according to the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA).
Avion Express also announced it is actively recruiting for a regional director in Mexico.
“Securing an AOC in Mexico will significantly enhance Avion Express’s position as a global leader in ACMI solutions. The company is focused on building a professional team with deep experience in the local market,” added Kajokas.
