The Mexican Senate is preparing to welcome senior officials from the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to strengthen space cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting, scheduled to coincide with the bicentennial celebration of the Senate and the 150th anniversary of its restoration, will feature Bill Nelson, Director, NASA, and Deputy Administrator Pamela Melroy.

In collaboration with the Mexican Space Agency (AEM), the initiative stems from the Draft Bill of Constitutional Reforms on extraterrestrial activities, aiming to bolster educational and space cooperation between Mexico and the United States.

"The meeting aims to strengthen collaboration in priority areas for national development, such as Earth sciences and Nanosatellites,” said Senate President, Ana Lilia Rivera. This includes exploring new collaboration opportunities, such as utilizing NASA missions to study air quality and water resource management.

Mexico, as a signatory to the Artemis Accords, is committed to international cooperation in space exploration for a safe, peaceful, and prosperous future use of space. Mexican students will also participate in this initiative, aiming to increase education and STEM projects opportunities.

Additionally, plans are underway to launch the “AztechSat Nanosatellite Constellation” in collaboration with NASA for monitoring and protecting the marine environment. In December, the Mexican Space Module "EMIDSS-6", featuring Mexican technology, will undergo testing in a NASA mission.

The collaboration between Mexico and NASA extends to programs such as the International Internship Program, facilitating Mexican students' access to internship opportunities at the US agency.
