Bimbo Reports 2024 Sustainability Progress Toward 2030 Goals
Grupo Bimbo released its 2024 Annual Report titled detailing its sustainability progress and business developments aligned with its 2030 and 2050 targets. The report was published in conjunction with World Environment Day.
Under its sustainability strategy, Feeding a Better World, Grupo Bimbo focuses on protecting natural systems through its For Nature priority, structured around three main pillars: net-zero carbon emissions, zero waste, and regenerative agriculture.
In its net-zero carbon emissions pillar, the company aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Grupo Bimbo has integrated sustainable mobility into this effort, operating a fleet of more than 7,757 vehicles powered by alternative fuels. Over 4,200 of these vehicles are electric, making Grupo Bimbo the operator of the largest electric delivery fleet in Latin America and Mexico.
Regarding the zero waste pillar, Grupo Bimbo reported that 94% of its packaging is recyclable, reaffirming its goal to achieve 100% recyclable, biodegradable, or compostable packaging by 2025. The company also operates 80 bakeries and production centers with zero landfill waste. On regenerative agriculture, the company manages close to 300,000 ha under regenerative practices. The goal is for all key ingredient sources to come from regenerative farmland by 2050.
Alejandra Vázquez, Global Sustainability Director, Grupo Bimbo, highlighted that 2024 was a period of significant advances and efforts to create a positive impact on the planet, the employees, and the communities that the company serves. “We are proud of these achievements as we continue advancing firmly toward our purpose of Feeding a Better World,” she noted.
In addition, Grupo Bimbo reported progress on two other sustainability priorities. Under the For You pillar, focused on healthier nutritional profiles, plant-based diets, and sustainable purpose-driven brands, 99% of its everyday consumption products are now free of artificial colors and flavors.
Moreover, the For Life priority, aimed at supporting communities and caring for employees, includes 267 community projects across 28 countries under the Good Neighbor program, benefiting over 530,000 people.
