Mexico Highlights Production Advances on World Food Safety Day
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) marked World Food Safety Day, observed on June 7, by reaffirming its commitment to prevent risks and enhance food safety across the country’s agri-food supply chain.
Under the theme “Food Safety: Science in Action,” the National Service for Agro-Food Health, Safety, and Quality (SENASICA) acknowledged the work of farmers, transporters, storage operators, distributors, marketers, and consumers who contribute to keeping food free of physical, chemical, and biological contaminants.
SENASICA promotes the adoption of food safety systems by primary producers and processing companies to help ensure public health through safe food practices. One such initiative is the Contamination Risk Reduction System, applied to the primary production and processing of plant, animal, aquaculture, and fishery products. In 2024 alone, 17,255 primary production and packing units were certified or recognized for complying with food safety practices.
SENASICA operates the National Reference Center for Agro-Food Safety and Biosecurity (CNRIBA), which serves as the official laboratory for testing chemical contaminants, identifying pathogens and genetically modified organisms, and sequencing the genomes of bacteria relevant to the agri-food sector.
