OXXO, Kellogg's, BAMX Launch Food Security Initiative
OXXO, Kellogg's, and Mexico’s Food Bank (BAMX) announced a collaborative effort aimed at improving nutrition and quality of life for vulnerable populations in Mexico. The initiative, part of Kellogg's Mejores Días program (Better Days program), encourages consumers to purchase designated products at OXXO stores, contributing to the donation of 2.4 million healthy food portions to benefit 100,000 families facing food insecurity across 30 states.
Consumers can engage in this effort by purchasing participating Kellogg's products. Each package features a QR code that directs buyers to a website where they can actively participate in combating hunger as donors to the Red BAMX. The site also provides information on reducing food waste, encouraging consumers to contribute to meaningful change within their households.
Armando Novoa, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager, OXXO Mexico, expressed pride in the collaboration. “By joining forces, we can generate a greater impact and contribute to a more sustainable world while expanding food security for the most vulnerable populations,” he said.
Alina Hernández, Corporate Affairs Director, Kellanova Latin America, highlighted the significance of the partnership. “This collaboration marks an unprecedented milestone in our mission to create better days and ensure a place at the table for everyone. This is the first time we unite our efforts in such a large-scale initiative focused on transforming lives, delivering not only food but also hope and opportunities to vulnerable communities in Mexico,” she stated.
OXXO also supports food security by providing over 89,000 people in vulnerable situations with food donations each year. In 2023, the company donated more than 1.6t of food to BAMX, contributing to its goal of sending zero waste to landfills and achieving zero food waste by 2030.
“We are proud to join this campaign with such a noble purpose. At Red BAMX, our mission is to combat hunger and reduce food waste, and with the collaboration of committed companies like Kellogg's and OXXO, we are closer to achieving equitable access to food for all,” remarked Mariana Jiménez Cárdenas, General Director, BAMX.
