A recent J.D. Power study shows that artificial intelligence (AI) technologies—such as smart climate control, driver preferences settings, and blind spot cameras—are increasingly boosting vehicle satisfaction among drivers in the United States. The 2025 US Tech Experience Index Study introduced a smart vehicle category to assess seven AI-driven features designed to enhance comfort and usability.

The study found that smart ignition, intelligent climate control, and personalized driver settings ranked among the top 10 features for both reliability and owner satisfaction. J.D. Power’s 2025 US Initial Quality Study reported that intelligent climate control systems reduced problems by 6.3 per 100 vehicles compared with 2024. These systems automatically adjust heating, ventilation, and air conditioning to maintain comfort despite complex infotainment controls.

Some AI features, however, still present challenges. The car wash mode, which prepares a vehicle for cleaning, caused confusion due to its placement in infotainment menus. Thirty-eight percent of users requested clearer instructions, while 15% found the feature too slow.

Blind spot cameras show widespread adoption, with 93% of respondents using them regularly and 74% indicating they want the feature in their next vehicle. Cars equipped with blind spot cameras tend to sell faster, reflecting strong consumer preference.

In-vehicle shopping and payment features—for fuel, parking, tolls, or EV charging—also continue to gain popularity, with 62% of owners planning ongoing use.

J.D. Power noted a shift in vehicle quality concerns from hardware failures to usability issues within infotainment systems and advanced driver-assistance technologies. Recognition and authentication systems, including biometric and touchless controls, currently report the highest rates of user issues.

Among brands, Genesis ranked highest for innovation for the fifth consecutive year, followed by Cadillac and Lincoln. Hyundai led mass-market brands, with Kia and Mitsubishi trailing. Award-winning technologies include Land Rover’s air purification system, Hyundai Santa Fe’s digital key and blind spot camera, and Kia EV9’s one-pedal driving feature.
