Stellantis appointed Antonio Filosa as Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Carlos Tavares, who was dismissed in December 2024. Filosa, a seasoned executive within the Fiat-Chrysler and Stellantis framework, will formally take on his new role on Jun. 23, following an extraordinary general assembly. In the interim, he has been granted full executive authority to ensure a seamless transition.

The company’s Board of Directors unanimously selected Filosa after an extensive months-long search that evaluated both internal and external candidates.

Filosa steps into leadership as Stellantis confronts significant operational and financial hurdles. In 2024, the automaker reported a 70% drop in net profit and a 14% revenue decline in 1Q25, leading the company to withdraw its annual financial forecast. The challenges are compounded by declining sales in the United States and ongoing global trade uncertainties.

Since joining Fiat in 1999, Filosa has held various strategic roles. Most recently, he served as Chief Operating Officer for the Americas and headed the newly formed Global Quality Division established in February 2025. Previously, he oversaw operations in North and South America and managed Stellantis’ US brand portfolio, including Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, and Jeep.

“Under his leadership, Fiat became the market leader in South America, while brands like Peugeot, Citroën, Ram, and Jeep experienced significant growth, strengthening the group’s regional dominance,” Stellantis noted. Filosa was also credited with leading the development of the Pernambuco plant, one of South America’s largest automotive facilities, which facilitated Jeep’s entry into the Brazilian market.

Filosa’s appointment follows Carlos Tavares’ abrupt departure, nearly 18 months before his contract was set to expire. Tavares exited amid internal disagreements and financial struggles across several markets. During the interim, an executive management committee, led by Stellantis Chairman John Elkann, managed operations. Elkann will continue in his role after Filosa assumes office.

The selection process considered several prominent candidates, including Renault CEO Luca de Meo, Stellantis Purchasing and Supplier Quality Director Maxime Picat, former FCA CEO Mike Manley, and Hyundai CEO José Muñoz.
