Toyota to Recall 100,000 Cars for Engine Replacements
Toyota has announced a major recall for nearly 100,000 Tundra pickups and 3,500 Lexus LX 600 SUVs from the 2022 and 2023 model years due to engine performance issues, requiring a full engine replacement for each vehicle.
In early June, Toyota announced a significant recall involving 2022 and 2023 model year vehicles where debris from manufacturing could lead to engine performance problems, including unusual noises, rough running, or stalling while driving. Toyota has decided that the only solution is to replace the entire engine in each affected vehicle.
The engines in question are from the gasoline-powered versions of the Tundra and Lexus LX 600. Toyota has confirmed that hybrid versions are not affected by this recall. The decision to replace the engines is relatively rare but not unprecedented in the auto industry. Similar situations have occurred before, such as Hyundai’s 2015 recall of 470,000 Sonata models and Honda’s 2023 recall of 250,000 vehicles for engine-related issues, as reported by CNN.
This engine recall is part of a broader series of actions by Toyota. The company is also recalling approximately 280,000 pickups and SUVs in the U.S. due to a potential issue where the engine may not fully disengage in neutral. This problem could cause the vehicle to move forward unintentionally at low speeds, increasing crash risk. Mexico Business News previously informed that this recall impacts Toyota Tundra, Sequoia, and Lexus LX 600 vehicles manufactured between 2022 and 2024.
Toyota is addressing other recall issues, including 19,000 vehicles for a software problem affecting rear view displays in certain Mirai, Lexus LS, LC, and ES models, and 4,000 Camry and Camry Hybrid vehicles over safety concerns related to rear fold-down seat head restraints.
In parallel, Volkswagen has initiated a recall of over 260,000 vehicles due to problems with fuel tank suction pumps. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has noted that issues with the suction jet pump seal could lead to fuel leaks and potential fire risks. The affected models include Audi A3 Sedan and Cabriolet, Volkswagen Jetta GLI, Golf SportWagen, Golf GTI, and Golf A7.
Ford has also issued two recalls this month, impacting over 150,000 vehicles, including the Ford Expedition, Transit, and Lincoln Navigator. These recalls address various safety issues, such as suspension, steering, and seat belt problems.
