Volvo is set to begin operations at its new heavy vehicle manufacturing plant in Cienega de Flores, Nuevo Leon, in May 2026, with hiring planned to start in October 2025. As part of its supply chain strategy, over 20 Swedish supplier companies have already established or are in the process of establishing operations in the region.

“Thanks to Volvo, Nuevo León is attracting significant foreign investment, with 20 Swedish companies coming to the state,” said Emmanuel Loo, Acting Minister of Economy of Nuevo Leon, in an interview with MILENIO-Multimedios. He  noted that five of these suppliers are currently under construction, with locations both near and farther from the Volvo plant. “Some companies have purchased land, while others are building their facilities,” he added.

These suppliers are expected to create approximately 1,500 direct jobs, complementing the 2,000 positions Volvo itself anticipates generating by 2030. Employment opportunities will be spread across various industrial parks in the state, and some suppliers will also serve other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the region.

“Volvo serves as a key anchor, encouraging these companies to invest in the area,” Loo said.

Volvo announced the plant in Cienega de Flores in October 2024, initially committing US$750 million. The facility will produce Volvo Trucks and Mack Trucks. In April 2025, after a meeting between Governor Samuel García and Volvo executives in Gothenburg, Sweden, the automaker confirmed that the Nuevo Leon plant would be its largest worldwide, with total investment rising to US$1 billion.

Loo emphasized that the new supplier companies will serve not only Volvo but also other manufacturers in Nuevo Leon and the Saltillo-Ramos Arizpe corridor. “These firms will be integral parts of the broader regional supply chain,” he explained.

Volvo also aims to capitalize on the well-established industrial base in Nuevo Leon. “We are collaborating closely with Volvo, as they intend to leverage the existing industry infrastructure in the state,” said Loo.
