At this year’s LARPET 2025 forum, the Mexican Oil Institute (IMP) highlighted its latest technological advances to support a cleaner and more self-sufficient energy sector. Led by Director General Elizabeth Mar, the institute shared updates on its development of generative AI tools trained on six decades of institutional knowledge to anticipate and solve key challenges in refining and petrochemicals.

During her keynote address, Mar emphasized IMP’s commitment to sustainable innovation, highlighting projects such as biomass and waste-based refineries, CO₂ capture, green hydrogen, synthetic fuels, and water management strategies. The goal, she noted, is to reduce emissions and optimize performance across the entire energy value chain.

In petrochemicals, IMP reiterated its commitment to new integration projects backed by its proven technical capacity. Arturo Rosales, Director of Engineering and Services, emphasized the work of the institute’s environmental teams on impact assessments and methane emissions, and its active role in five of the 17 plants at the Olmeca Refinery in Dos Bocas.

Among the institute’s most emblematic projects is Mexico’s first hydroprocessing catalyst manufacturing facility, led by IMP from concept to equipment design. The plant will support the production of ultra-low sulfur diesel, marking a major step forward in national refining capabilities. With these developments, IMP continues to position itself as a cornerstone of Mexico’s clean and sovereign energy transition.

The forum featured further IMP contributions in panels on R&D and energy transition, reinforcing the crucial role that the organization plays in Mexico’s oil and gas landscape. With 60 years of expertise, IMP reiterated its commitment to position itself at the forefront of science-driven and sovereign energy development.
