A study by the technology company Capterra, in which more than 500 administrative workers were interviewed, revealed that 38% of Mexican companies have already implemented artificial intelligence (AI) in their project management processes. This technology, according to the report, is transforming the way organizations manage and execute their projects, presenting new opportunities and challenges in the Mexican market.

In an increasingly competitive business environment, efficiency in project management, according to International Group, is a fundamental part of driving the long-term success of organizations. Mexican companies have embraced this principle, which has the fifth highest adoption rate of business AI in Latin America, according to data from the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM). This strategy has fueled growth in the Mexican AI market, which is expected to reach a value of US$2.7 billion by the end of 2024, an increase of 30% over the previous year, according to Statista Market Insights. These trends highlight the expanding role of AI in enhancing the competitiveness of Mexican companies, particularly in their project management processes.

Mexican companies appear to recognize this, as evidenced by a Capterra study, which shows that most Mexican companies hold a positive outlook on the use of AI in project management, expecting it to enhance processes and decision-making. "In the near future, technologies such as AI in project management will become the main driver for making critical business decisions," agree 84% of the study’s respondents.

The growing adoption of AI in project management has shown several significant implications for enterprises. The study reveals that 68% of respondents using AI for project management are "very satisfied" with its use, with the automation of repetitive tasks, quality management, and process optimization highlighted as the main benefits, enabling greater efficiency and productivity in project execution.

The study also declared that these enhanced capabilities have led to improved planning and resource allocation, giving companies a strategic edge to foster innovation and maintain competitiveness in an ever-evolving market. Additionally, AI-driven analysis and prediction tools support companies in monitoring and managing potential risks, enhancing their agility and responsiveness.

The integration of this technology has generated a positive return on investment reported by 91% of the survey respondents. Key benefits that companies have experienced from this integration include achieving desired project outcomes (32%), having more time to address other problems (26%), and obtaining greater accuracy for calculations and predictions through the use of historical data(22%).

Most companies indicated that they plan to continue investing in technology over the next two years. Specifically, 26% reported planning a "moderate" increase in investment (11% to 30%), 32% foresee a "significant" increase (31% to 60%), and 30% expect a considerable rise in spending (61% to 100%). In addition, the study indicated that 46% of companies have not yet implemented AI but are either beginning to integrate it now or are interested in doing so in the future.

Despite the potential benefits of AI in project management, the study highlights challenges in its implementation within Mexico. These challenges include a lack of skilled personnel on project management teams (31%), insufficient technological infrastructure (30%), and difficulties in integration, including resistance to AI from employees and decision-makers. However, with proper training and well-established policies, these barriers can be overcome, as indicated by the 52% of employees who have received adequate training in the use of AI.

To maximize the benefits of project management AI, Capterra advises companies to prioritize staff training, establish clear policies and guidelines, and ensure human verification of the obtained results. Training employees in the ethical and responsible use of AI improves employee’s skills, while establishing policies—as supported by 78% of the companies surveyed—ensures the safe and controlled use of the technology. In addition, human verification, conducted by 95% of the companies, acts as a final filter to promote more informed and ethical decision making. Altogether, these efforts help ensure the successful implementation of AI project management within organizations proports Capterra.
